Here is my latest column from yesterday’s Sunday Gazette.
If Gov. Rod Blagojevich is guilty of trying to sell a Senate seat in Illinois, then Caroline Kennedy is guilty of trying to buy one in New York. While it’s true that she has not offered Gov. Paterson anything in exchange for the seat, nevertheless she is attempting to use the Kennedy name and mythos to purchase the seat. That she has little to offer New Yorkers is reason enough to deny her attempted purchase, but the latest rumors are that the governor is going to appoint her.
When I say that Caroline Kennedy has little to offer the people of New York, I am not saying that she is not an intelligent or gifted person. A copy of her book, “The Right to Privacy,” which she co-wrote with Ellen Alderman, sits in my bookcase. I have read it and highly recommend it.
