This is the third reincarnation of Upstream. Our old blog was very active, receiving on average more than 300 hits a day. After a hiatus of more than six months, we are beginning anew.
Upstream’s focus is the eastern Mohawk Valley and Capital District region of Upstate New York. We are interested in Mohawk Valley news, politics, arts, history, religion–you name it, if it has anything to do with the Mohawk Valley, we are interested in writing about it.
Our second focus is on injustice everywhere, due to my experiences battling Child Protective Services in Montgmery County, New York. Click here to read about my experiences with CPS and how you can avoid some of the mistakes I made.

Hi, glad to see you’ve got a blog going again. I look forward to more of your lovely photographs.

Hey–I liked Stephen Haven’s book precisely for the reasons you disliked it. I used it in a writing class last term to navigate the ideas about home and homecoming–as a way to get my class writing about themselves. Perhaps if you read a few of his poems–the sense of that upstate he fails to connect with in his memoir might be easier to understand? Who knows.

Actually I have read several of his poems, and I like them very much. I think he is a good poet and a good writer, but I don’t think River Lock is a great book.

Just got an author signed copy of Sanfords of Amsterdam by Alex Robb with jacket. We did not have one at the WEM. Are they hard to find?

Yes they are quite hard to find. I have only had two or three in 15 years.
